Burned Tree, making off stage set for Art in Hats music performance

Image

Burned Tree, by Noke (Stage set for Art in Hats, Attrezzo)

“Burned Tree”, part of my stage set for Art in Hats closing party.
Model and texture by myself.
Apps used: ZBrush, Sculptris, Blender, Photoshop, Second Life.
Rendered in Blender Internal and Sculptris.

Nine woods in the cauldron go, burn them fast and burn them slow.
Birch into the fire goes, to represent what the Lady knows.
Oak gives the forest might, in the fire brings the God’s insight.
Rowan is the tree of power, causing life and magic to flower.
Willows at the waterside stand, to aid the journey to the Summerland.
Hawthorn is burned to purify, and draw faery to your eye.
Hazel, the tree of wisdom and learning, adds its strength to the bright fire burning.
White are the flowers of the apple tree, that brings us the fruits of fertility.
Grapes that grow upon the vine, giving us both joy and wine.
Fir does mark the evergreen, to represent immortality unseen.
Elder is the Lady’s tree, burn it not, or cursed you’ll be.

The Poem of the Nine Woods, anonymous author, celtic poem.

This burned tree was part of my set for the electronic music performance by Morlita Quan with motive of the closing party of Art in Hats challenge, where over  a hundred people came to celebrate. Curated by Quan Lavender in Second Life, this project was a call to mix fashion and art by diverse CG artists and fashion designers. You can see a part of this performance in the following video by Wizardoz Chrome.

I can’t let go of my mind the concept of cyber-renaissance of ancient myths since I’m working with Morlita Quan in Tir Na Nog project. Maybe is because of this that this work in progress rose, inspired in Saint George’s legend, has a bit of cyber style…

RISE poem and art installation at One Billion Rising

RISE, GC virtual art installation by Noke Yuitza for One Billion Rising.

Honour McMillan invited me to join One Billion Rising in Second Life this year in a call to action against gender violence and, of course, i said YES, I Rise!!! Because all we know cases of violence against women and children… a friend, a relative… So here is a sample of RISE, my installation for OBR and its poem, just because I…

RISE for justice!!!

RISE ++++++ (SP)

RISE ++++++ (EN)

“The wind slips through the broken window licking painfully the wounds of Silvia, who put on her makeup in the mirror while she eats her cry.

Silvia is painting in red the blue in her lips,

in peach the black in her eye,

in flesh his fingers marked in purple in her arm …

while she lies to her reflection,

again,

saying this is the last time,

that he has apologized to her, truly this time,

that she deserves his deformed words and blows,

that without him she would be nothing and that

he, deep in his heart,

loves her.

And so it goes a day,

a week,

a year …

until one day is the cold and dirty water who slips through her mouth and licks her wounds while makeup and embraces her skin in a silent hug that turns off her life.”

RISE ++++++ (FR)

The old rag dolls of poor girls were made of colorful materials like potato sacks filled with sawdust, and even then sure they were so valuable for them as portals to their dreams, as the stars for a midsummer night.

Vintage Red Doll in A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Once I sat upon a promontory,
And heard a mermaid, on a dolphin’s back,
Uttering such dulcet and harmonious breath,
That the rude sea grew civil at her song;
And certain stars shot madly from their spheres,
To hear the sea-maid’s music.

Murder, she wrote (Weekly Photo Challenge: Wrong)

Image

Murder, She Wrote (by noke)

“Murder, She Wrote”.
Drawing & photo manipulation.
Photoshop CS5.

What will you do if you became witness of a crime? It’s wrong or not to try to avoid the problem? If you had the opportunity to stop a murder, risking your own life, would you do it?

Murder, she wrote is my tribute to the mystery and detective culture and to those afternoons growing watching Angela Lansbury as Jessica Fletcher, the mystery writer become into an amateur detective.

I’ve mixed photo, draw (it has a part of other of my artworks: The SandMan, Olimpia) and digital art on it. The witness observing the murder is lost in the yellow, the main color in the picture, because yellow color can be bright as the sun, but can also be the color of the disease and the shock… depends on the tone. The murder scene is inspired in the last scene of the game Tomb Raider Legend.

Yellow, the original version, just contained the witness observing and it was conceived as a gift to the virtual museum the MKAC for it’s III anniversary. I hope you like them!!
Click on the images to see them better and… comments are welcome! (And if you like them, let me know it please!)

The SandMan, Olimpia

Image

After him–after him–why do you pause? Coppelius, Coppelius, has robbed me of my best automaton–a work of twenty years–body and soul set upon it–the clock-work–the speech–the walk, mine; the eyes stolen from you. The infernal rascal–after him; fetch Olympia–there you have the eyes!

The Sandman, E.T.A Hoffmann.

Olympia is one of the characters of the E.T.A Hoffmann’s tale The Sandman, a grotesque story written on the romanticism era about fear, madness, blind love and droids, but if you read closer you will see that it’s a complex analysis of the paper of the women in the society of that time, but also ours.

Olimpia is that prototype of unreal women desired by men, a droid that didn’t choose her path, but what will happen if she had the chance to choose?

I made my version of this mysterious woman in 2010 for Illustration in Fine Arts, but also for the immersive intervention The SandMan in Second Life, that was exposed in the UWA challenge and in Arte Libera‘s virtual gallery. You can find more information about E.T.A Hoffmann’s tale and about this intervention in “Related articles”.
